The project focuses on modernizing the arrivals area, improving passenger flow, and significantly reducing the terminal’s carbon footprint.
According to reporting by ThinkBusiness, the upgrades aim to replace outdated 1970s infrastructure with energy-efficient systems while enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Ray O’Driscoll, interim CEO of Shannon Airport Group, emphasized the environmental impact:
“This project represents a significant step forward in lowering emissions, improving energy performance, and enhancing the customer experience at Shannon Airport. It is part of our broader commitment to a sustainable future.”
The investment aligns with Shannon Airport’s long-term sustainability strategy and continues a series of upgrades, including the installation of solar panels, new security scanning equipment, additional parking spaces, and updated European gates.
OCC Construction, a Galway-based contractor, is delivering the project. Construction has already begun, with completion expected by May 2027. The airport has assured passengers that operations will continue with minimal disruption during the works.
Beyond the terminal, the €40 million 2026 investment plan includes taxiway improvements and the development of new industrial units at the Shannon Airport Business Park, offering flexible, energy-efficient commercial space.
